WTSL were contracted to design and manufacture a production helium leak detection system. The system would be used to leak test various sizes of a component that was used in high voltage electricity supply networks.
The design brief specified an automated test cycle with a total test time of less than 15 minutes.
The designed helium leak detection system has a large vertical stainless steel test chamber, a roughing vacuum pump group and a high performance helium leak detector housed inside a control cabinet.
The component to be tested is placed upon a loading plate which then can be easily slid into the test chamber. The operator then presses a button to start a fully automatic pump down sequence.
Once the chamber pressure reaches a predetermined level, the helium leak detector measures the leak rate.
